Fraser Island dingo fence completed
Fri Oct 24, 2008

The Queensland State Government has finished building a controversial fence around a Fraser Island township.

The grids that allow vehicles to access the town of Eurong on Fraser Island will be electrified today.

They are part of a dingo proof fence system built around Eurong and Happy Valley.

The Queensland Government says the fences will help prevent a repeat of the fatal dingo attack that happened on the island in 2001.

But some residents are furious. They say the electrified grids are dangerous and will not stop dingos from getting into the towns or approaching people on the island's beaches.

They are also worried about the impact of construction on the World Heritage listed sand island.
