| Dingo-proof fence price blows out |
|
The cost of building controversial dingo-proof fences around two Fraser Island towns, off the south-east Queensland coast, has blown out by $100,000. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says the cost of the fences around Eurong and Happy Valley has increased from $750,000 to $850,000. Happy Valley resident Bree Jashin says the fences are unnecessary and the State Government will have to spend a lot more money on maintenance because of the shifting sand. "Down at Eurong, I'm aware that the amount of erosion that it's caused down there has been quite incredible," she said. "The sand washes down the road and through a number of properties as it heads towards the beach. "Because the two places are catchments and the water is heading straight towards the beach - that's where it heads." |
