| More Dingo Fences? |
|
Queensland barrister has been appointed to look at whether more dingo fences should be built on Fraser Island off the state's south-east coast. The island's traditional owners, the Butchella people, have applied to the Federal Government to protect their cultural heritage if any new fences are proposed. Scott McLeod will report to federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett early next year. But a spokesman for the Minister says he could not order the removal of existing fences, only future developments that impact on Aboriginal heritage. |
